SUMMER PROGRAM

 

Description

This program is a unique educational opportunity offered by Runajambi (Institute for the Study of Quichua Culture and Health). Runajambi is the first Amerindian health organization in Ecuador devoted to the study of the Quichua culture, health and medical system.  Runajambi will host the program in the beautiful area of Otavalo, a town located in the Northern highlands of Ecuador.  Students will spend six weeks in Otavalo and the surrounding quichua villages.  It is expected that students will take some Quichua lessons in USA before starting the summer program.  Moreover, in Ecuador, they will immerse in Quichua during their stay.

 Objectives  

To provide students interested in health issues and healing practices the opportunity to study the Quichuas’ health and medical system while immersed within the Quichua society.

To facilitate a rich intercultural learning experience for American students through first hand and close interaction with the Quichua people in the Andes.

Required language courses

Thematic Quichua (in Otavalo) and Introduction to Quichua (in USA).
